PCB to persuade Bangladesh cricket board to play three T20Is and one Test

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board will try to persuade its Bangladesh counterpart to play at least a Test, besides three T20 Internationals, in the country after BCB Chairman Nazmul Hassan insisted on a short tour later this month. The PCB announced on Monday that chairman Ehsan Mani will meet Hassan in Dubai this week on the sidelines of the ICC Governance Review Committee meeting, where the two top officials will continue the discussion on Bangladesh’s tour itinerary. A reliable source in the PCB was quoted as saying that Mani will suggest Hassan play at least one Test and the T20 International matches in January-February in Pakistan. “Mani will also seek a commitment from Hassan when Bangladesh will come and play the second Test in Pakistan,” the source said. The BCB, after an internal meeting on Sunday, said its government had advised it to take a short tour of Pakistan at the moment because of the security situation arising out of Iran-USA tensions in the Middle East.

Hassan said the Bangladesh team could play three T20 International matches this month or next month. The PCB has said that after the Test tour by Sri Lanka there was no ground for Bangladesh refusing to tour Pakistan as per the ICC Test Championship schedule because of security concerns.

The Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) hopes of hosting Bangladesh for a twin T20I and Test series this month received a lift on Tuesday after it emerged that the latter's cricket board has sought its players' consent for the tour.

While seeking such consent is a component of the quality procedure (SOP) before foreign tours, ESPNcricinfo reports that it's a sign that wheels are in motion, although a final judgment will only be made on Jan 12 when the Bangladesh Cricket Board officials meet.

The BCB, in its last official stance, was adamant that it might send its team to Pakistan just for the T20I series and insisted that the Test series be played on neutral soil.

The PCB, on the opposite hand, has maintained that it might not play its home series within the UAE as its successful hosting of the Sri Lankan series has answered all questions regarding the safety situation in Pakistan.

The impasse, however, could also be heading towards an answer because the ESPN report indicates.

Furthermore, the publication says that an unnamed Bangladeshi Test cricketer has already signed up for the Pakistan tour.

KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Thursday announced that it had been expecting to sign an agreement with its Bangladeshi counterpart during a few days regarding the latter's tour — scheduled later this month.

According to the proposed schedule, the PCB intended to host three T20 matches and two Test matches, which might be a part of the ICC World Test Championship. However, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) hasn't been too hooked into the thought and, instead, proposed that the team participate during a shorter format and play Test series on neutral ground.

The BCB also didn't provide any formal reason for his or her suggestion.

On the opposite hand, sources said Bangladesh, like Sri Lanka, wish to spend as little time as possible in Pakistan. Sources on the brink of the PCB have said the board maintained its original stance to prioritize Test cricket over a T20 series because it was need of the hour for Pakistan.

The dates Bangladesh proposed for a Test series weren't suitable as they might fall within the month of Ramadan, the sources said. Another suggestion was to schedule one match game and while the number of T20s is increased to 3, they added.' If the team is given clearance, then I'll go'
Bangladesh head coach Russell Domingo had said he had no issues touring Pakistan, provided the BCB agreed to send their national team.

"If the team is given clearance to travel, then I will be able to go. If the team isn’t given clearance, then I definitely won’t go," Domingo had said in an interview with New Age.

Bangladesh was scheduled to play three T20Is and two Tests later in January; however, doubts over the tour surfaced when BCB President Nazmul Hassan said certain members of the fraternity were uncertain of the tour.

“If we have to, then I am going,” South African Domingo told New Age. “I think we can only discuss the matter once the decision is made. We need to discuss with the cricket board and the board will decide what will happen next.”
